Trucking Jobs

•Containers - Containers transfer freight into and away from ports.

•Specialized - Broad Category that will include Low Boys (Heavy Equipment), Vehicle Haulers, Furniture Movers, and Bull Haulers (Livestock). All of those type of job opportunities will need specialized skills and may ensure more income.
Classified by the Area that is Serviced

•OTR-Over the Road Drivers - Many brand-new drivers start out in these positions. These drivers could have runs that take them all around the US. The days separated from home can differ. Some companies have the drivers back home on the weekends and others keep them gone for several weeks.

•Regional Drivers - In these positions, drivers generally remain in a certain region (Southeast, Midwest, etc). Some of these job opportunities make it possible for a driver to be home a couple times each week or even more.

•Local Drivers - Local drivers generally receive the most time at home. Some even enjoy jobs where they are home every day. Many times these particular jobs compensate on an hourly basis.

•Team Drivers - Companies use teams to acquire greatest production and keep the truck moving. Usually someone sleeps while the other drives. Teams tend to be away from home for long durations. Pay varies from company to company. Living within a truck with a co-worker can often be difficult.

LTL

LTL is an acronym for Less than Truckload. This is a different classification which we will cover in a separate blog. The aspects of these jobs are that drivers are commonly home every day and earn really good money. The shortcomings are that the position is usually physically and mentally strenuous.

Company Drivers vs Owner Operators

There are also two different kinds of drivers which are identified by who owns the truck and pays the bills. Company drivers drive a truck furnished by the company. The company pays the expenses and upkeep on the truck. Owner Operators, conversely provide the truck and cover the majority of the expenses but earn considerably more money per mile.
